Chris was a pupil at Wallace High School in Lisburn before
entering the Ulster Rugby Academy. He is currently working for Ballymena. He
earned a development contract at the start of the 2006/07 season and was
upgraded to a full contract for 2007/08. Chris has represented Ireland at U21
level and also featured strongly for Ireland A in the 2009 Churchill Cup.
Chris' leadership was one of his key attributes from a young
age and it was no surprise that he has captained Ulster on numerous occasions
in the absence of Rory Best In November 2009, he was named in Ireland's 39-man
squad for the 2009 end of year rugby tests. He won his first full Ireland cap
against Australia on the summer tour down under in 2010.
Chris Henry was made
captain of the Ulster 2010 in April 2010
Chris played most of his rugby at number 8 until the 2010/11
season when he shifted to the openside flank role. The Lisburn man reinvented
himself and played a key role in Ulster's steady improvement.
The 2011/12 season was a memorable one for Chris. He helped
Ulster reach the Heineken Cup final and was named Player of the Year at the
annual Ulster Rugby Awards Dinner. He also forced his way back into the Ireland
set up and earned a spot in the Six Nations, before touring with them to New
Zealand.
In 2012/13 he helped Ulster reach the final of the
RaboDirect PRO12 and won six caps for Ireland. He toured with the international
side to North America.
The highlight of his career so far came in the 2013/14
season when he played every game of the RBS 6 Nations and helped the
international team win the Championship for the first time since 2009.
