rugby european cup ,21-12-15

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS CUP RUGBY

FRIDAY

NORTHAMPTON 9-9 RACING

NOT MUCH KNOWN IN BAD GAME

Myler kicked Saints into an early lead with a long-range penalty, but New Zealand great Carter, in his second game for Racing, soon levelled the score from the tee before adding a second against the run of play.

The fly-halves exchanged two more penalties each in the second half, and it was Saints who looked like the bigger threat in attack.

Their best chance for a try came on 66 minutes, when the usually reliable Carter saw his clearance charged down by George Pisi and Saints tried to scramble over from a five-metre scrum, but they were eventually penalised and the visitors cleared the danger.

Tjere is little said about a result like this as it is so poor a match and a result.

SATURDAY

LEINSTER 16-20 TOULON

ETRILLARD PUTS LEINSTER OUT IN DISAPIONTMENT

Three-time European champions Leinster held a 16-5 lead thanks to a penalty try and four Johnny Sexton kicks.

But Toulon earned their own penalty try, adding to Juan Smith's score, to cut the deficit to four points

Anthony Etrillard went over and Tom Taylor kicked a penalty to win it for the French side.

Leinster have been disappointing this season in Europe and it does not look like they are the sqame team as they were last season.

BATH 10-36 WASPS

LEIUA BUTS WASPS IN COMPLETE CONTROL

.

Semesa Rokoduguni put the hosts ahead early on at the Rec but Wasps hit back through Elliot Daly and Jimmy Gopperth - the fly-half adding five kicks from the tee.

George Ford and Gopperth exchanged penalties in the second half, and Daly added a drop goal for the visitors.

Alapati Leiua's converted try made sure of Wasps' convincing win.

This result has certainly helped Wasps as in their want to reach the quarter final of the European cup this season and this season they do look like the team to watch out for.

STADE 40-14 TREVISO

RAISUQE WIN PUTS STADE IN CONTROL

Stade Francais kept their Champions Cup play-off hopes alive with a 40-14 win over Treviso on Saturday night.

Morne Steyn kicked five conversions as Josaia Raisuqe crossed twice for the Parisians. Geoffrey Doumayrou scored at the very end of the game to go with tries from Hugo Bonneval and replacement prop Zurabi Zhvania

Stade have shown that they are one of the best teams in Europe with this win but form is something that will matter going forward and you canb not be sure how important that bonus point is

SCARLETS 6-9 GLASGOW

BOOT MAKES DIFFERENCE TO GLASGOW

The fly-half landed landed three penalties at a wet and windy Parc y Scarlets, with Aled Thomas landing two for the home side after the break.

Glasgow were down to 13 men for seven minutes in the second half but managed to limit the damage

Thomas missed a long-range penalty to snatch a draw for the Welsh region.

This is the type of match that Glasgow had to win to stand any chance in this year’s competition and they did but it was a very disappointing game

BORDEUX 33-27 OSPREYS

BONUS POINT WIN GETS BORDEUX BACK IN GROUP CONTENTION

Tries from Julien Rey, Berend Botha and Sofiane Guitoune gave Bordeaux a commanding 25-10 half-time lead.

But Eli Walker, Alun Wyn Jones and Dan Biggar added to Justin Tipuric's first-half score to make it 30-27

Yann Lesgourgues's try had given Bordeaux a bonus point and Baptiste Serin's penalty made sure of victory.

This is a great year for the Ospreys and reaching the quarter final for them would be considered a success no matter how it is done

SARACENS 55-13 OYONNAX

ASHDON HAT TRICK SHOULD PUT SARACENS IN QUARTERS

Winger Ashton, who was not picked for England's World Cup campaign this year, scored twice in the first half before completing his treble late on.

Samu Vunisa crossed twice, while Alex Goode, Mike Ellery and Jamie George also went over for the group leaders

Oyonnax could only earn a second-half consolation through Fetu'u Vainikolo

SUNDAY

LEICESTER 17-6 MUNSTER

SLATER AND GONEVA TRIES KEEP LEISTER 100 PER CENT RECORD

Tries from Ed Slater and Niki Goneva and three kicks from Freddie Burns earned the Tigers their fourth win of the campaign.

Two-time champions Munster could respond with only two first-half penalties from fly-half Ian Keatley.

Leicester have an eight point lead at the top of the group, but Munster's hopes of progression look all but over.

Munster seem to be in a bit of trouble this season and this win should secure a quarter final spot for them as Leister seem to have a bit form behind them

CLERMOUNT 42-10 EXETER

CLERMOUNT BONUS POINT LEAVES GROUP OPEN

David Strettle, Alexandre Lapandry, Fritz Lee, Sebastien Vahaamahina and Wales' Jonathan Davies all went over.

Exeter grabbed a late try through Tom Johnson, when Clermont were reduced to 13 men, but it was a mere consolation.

TOLOUSE 23-25 ULSTER

MARSHALL TRY GIVES ULSTER VITAL WIN

A Ruan Pienaar try helped the visitors to a 10-3 half-time lead and Andrew Trimble and Luke Marshall added second-half touchdowns for the Irish province.

Gael Fickou crossed for Toulouse, with Louis Picamoles adding a late try

This is a big win for Ulster and Irish rugby as with 2 matches against Blow French side Oyonnax Ulster still hold hopes of reaching the quarters
